Happy New Year

New Year's Day is my favorite holiday. I love that we all get a fresh start. This is the year, we tell ourselves, the year I'm finally going to get my act together. I'm going to get healthy/stop smoking/write a book/spend more time with the kids/etc.

Even if that fresh start only lasts a few months, or a few weeks, or even a few hours, the promise in the one moment still means so much. The optimism we show in making the same resolution that we couldn't keep last year (or the year before) makes me smile.

My resolution? I'm going to experience life. Not that I've been dead this whole time, don't worry-- I'm not some zombie quiller/blogger. What I mean is, I'm going to reacquaint myself with being in the moment. Not thinking about what else is on my To-Do list. Not planning what I'm going to make for dinner. Not sweeping the kitchen four times a day because there might be new crumbs since the last time I swept. Just being present. Watching my son talk to his blueberries. Admiring the sky as I drive to work. That kind of thing.

  2. Hi! I really like your quilling and have been following you for a while. Could you tell me where you get your paper from? I quill already myself, but your paper seems thicker than mine is and I was just curious... thank you!

BTW this is a really awesome piece :)
I really like it. Also I see your from PA - me too! woo hoo lol

    1. Hi Amrow,

How fun that you're from PA too- it seems there's quite a contingent of quillers from PA. We should start a club! :)

I make my own quilling strips from cardstock I buy in the scrapbook section- they have a huge range of colors (even patterns, which look really cool as quilling strips) and I like the thicker lines I get from the cardstock. It's a little harder to work with than standard-weight quilling strips, though- that can be tricky.

Thanks so much for the kind words!

  3. We should start a club! It would be a good fun. Haha and Idk if I have the patience to make my own strips but it sounds rewarding. Its such a relaxing tho sometimes frustrating pastime! Lol
